HELPFUL HINTS

Preparing for any test can be stressful. For some, driving is a gateway to their independence and things can come with confidence and ease. Others take a little while, these 5 tips can alleviate the stress and make it seamless so you can focus on your skill and not nerves.

1. Get Training

Professional instructors know the ins and outs of how the tests work and can offer specific advice or assistance to a difficult manoeuver or answering questions.

2. Know your vehicle

Understanding where all of your safety devices are and how they perform are key. If it’s raining set windshield wipers to automatic or intermittent so you aren’t faced with a distraction. Know how to set defrost functions on front and rear windshield to keep them clear. 4 way flashers and emergency brake are needed for these levels as well.

3. Is your vehicle fit? Make sure tires are properly inflated, license plate sticker must be valid or have proof of online purchase, signal and brake lights must be functioning, no cracks in the windshield within the span of your wiper blades. Any one of these will put your vehicle Out of Order and you will lose half of your road test fee.

4. Arrive early- organize yourself, write a checklist. Do I have my glasses/sunglasses, license, bring a snack and something to drink, sometimes examiners are running late. Bring mints or gum, your mouth gets pretty dry when you are nervous. Wear proper shoes, no bare feet or flip flops, they tend to slip off of the pedals, tie your hair up or wear a hat, don’t let anything obstruct your view.

5. Relax! Pretend the examiner doesn’t have a clue of what they are doing! You are teaching them what they need to know to better understand of how to do their job better. It’s normal to be nervous for the first 5-10 minutes after that your skills will guide you.
